Welcome to Egerton Park Indoor Bowls Club
We welcome anyone from the surrounding district, to join our friendly club. Bowling at Egerton is for all age groups and various skill sets. We have people on hand, who can coach you through the basic starting points, which is done in a casual relaxed way, enabling beginners to enjoy the experience. Obviously, being an indoor rink, people can bowl as little or as much as they like, all through the year, whatever the weather. We also have a wonderful restaurant and bar with refreshments available all day. You can join either as a playing member or for a reduced fee, become a social member, where you can watch the games, whist taking advantage of all the facilities.
A Brief History
1903 is the first date Indoor Bowling is mentioned so far found in any local records, the mention came soon after the Shelter Hall (now the Bexhill museum) was built in Egerton Park in that year. The idea was that a Temporary Green to play Indoor Bowls would be laid down so that it could be removed when the hall was being used for meetings and Concerts.
We do not know if the Shelter Hall was ever used for Indoor Bowling at this time as no hard evidence is available but we do know that in 1907 the then Borough council put aside £15 for an Indoor Rink to be provided in the Hall. Little is still known after this date whether Indoor Bowling ever came to fruition in Bexhill but the seeds were definitely sown in someone’s mind well before this later date as is shown later.
Outdoor Bowls had been played on Public Greens in Bexhill since 1907 when the first Green was opened in Egerton Park. Previous to this the game of lawn Bowls was played mostly in private gardens just like croquet.
Match & Social Facilities
We believe that we offer one of the top indoor bowling facilities in Sussex with six rinks available. We have bowling throughout the day, offering social, casual and league bowling plus matches against other bowls clubs.
We also have an excellent restaurant offering meals, snacks, tea and coffee throughout the day. There is also a fully stocked bar. Besides bowling there are also social events taking place in our functions room.
We offer full membership or, if you don’t want to bowl but would like to join and meet friends etc and take advantage of our excellent facilities then we offer a social membership.
Restaurant & Function Room
We have a large, bright restaurant, which can seat up to 90 people. It is open 7 days a week in Winter 9:00 – 16:45, with last orders at 14:00. In Summer, it is open 9:00 – 14:00, Monday to Friday, with last orders 13:30.
We serve anything from a cup of tea or a light snack to a roast dinner and a dessert all freshly cooked and at very reasonable prices. Some people prefer to book in advance but this is not necessary and guests are always welcome. Why not include a glass of wine or beer to have with your meal from our fully stocked bar?
We also have a large bright function room which can seat up to 80 people with a spacious dance floor and in-house catering by arrangement. We are sorry but at this time we do not hire the room for childrens, 18th or 21st birthday parties.

Our membership secretary will reply with details on your next steps to joining. In the first instance, we would like to meet you to see what your level of need might be. For example, a completely new bowler or someone with very limited bowling experience would be invited to join our new member’s coaching sessions; on the other hand, someone with previous bowling experience would be invited to join after a short introductory meeting
